On Wednesday 9th September a Business Breakfast will be presented by 3YB/COAST FM and the Warrnambool City Council, in conjunction with Telstra Countrywide featuring Swimmer Brooke Hanson, Gold Medallist at the Athens Olympic Games.

Proceeds raised through this event will be directed to the South West Community Foundation, working to strengthen communities in South West Victoria ‘from the ground up’.

About South West Community Foundation

South West Community Foundation has been established as an independent, community managed initiative with a mission to improve the quality of life of the community through the development of philanthropy.

Its area of interest covers the region made by the local government areas of Colac Otway, Corangamite, Warrnambool, Moyne, Glenelg and Southern Grampians which it is serving by granting eligible community organisations funds that are generated through donations, endowments and bequests. The Foundation also takes an active role in responding to specific issues that have been identified in this region.

Objectives

The objectives of the South West Community Foundation are to:

• build a substantial, permanent fund for charitable purposes in our region.
• receive, manage and invest funds prudently to optimize funds available for distribution.
• provide a simple, cost effective way for people to make donations to their community.
• distribute the earnings back to the community for charitable purposes.
• support eligible projects which aim to strengthen and develop our community.
• assist groups to identify and source funding opportunities
• facilitate partnerships that add value to the work of the Foundation.
• encourage giving by providing information, expertise, research and support to donors.
• commit to sharing knowledge and creating a diverse, vibrant and innovative community.
• be part of new initiatives and achievements in community building.
• encourage the development of a strong "Community Foundation Movement" across Australia.

The Foundation will consider funding projects and programs of community benefit that:

• Strengthen community through co-operation and partnerships.
• Build community capacity through skills development.
• Find local solutions to local problems and challenges.
• Contribute to community sustainability.
• Involve a wide cross section of the community.
